Flow not working: publish, pause and check it

Last updated: 13 October 2026 · 6 min read

When you change a flow, visitors keep seeing the old published version. The new version starts working only after you click “Publish”.

Steps

  1. 1

    Check the status

In the left menu, go to Campaigns › Flows and look at the flow's status: “Draft”, “Active” or “Paused”. A flow works only when it is “Active”. The text “unpublished changes” under the name means your changes have not reached visitors yet.

  2. 2

    Edit and publish the flow

Open the flow. A published flow opens in “Viewing” mode: an eye icon and “Viewing” show at the top, and the fields cannot be changed. Click “Edit”. Make your changes, choose “Active” in the status list at the top and click “Publish”. “Published” should appear. Every publish is a new version, and you can bring an older one back from “…” › “Version history”.

  3. 3

    Fix the errors

If there is a “Cannot publish yet:” line at the top, it lists the steps that need fixing. Clicking one selects that step. Common ones: a menu without buttons, a language picker without languages, a question without a name to save the answer under, a “Go to step” with no target chosen, a “Start another flow” with no flow chosen, a flow without a start step. A mobile app flow can also show a “The mobile app cannot show these steps” line, for example when a step has more than 10 buttons. “Show” selects that step.

  4. 4

    When the flow starts

In the web chat, the flow starts as soon as a new conversation is created in this inbox. In the mobile app, the flow's trigger is written on the first card of the canvas: when a conversation starts, on an app event, by hand, when the conversation status changes, or from another flow. While the bot is running, the conversation has the “Pending” status and does not go into the agents' queue. When it reaches the “Hand to agent” step, the conversation opens.

  5. 5

    When an agent writes

As soon as an agent replies in the conversation, the bot stops in that conversation and writes nothing more. A private note does not stop the bot. In the mobile app, if a “Wait” step has “If the operator writes” chosen, the flow does not stop: it goes on from “The operator wrote”.

  6. 6

    Pause or delete a flow

Choose “Pause” from the “…” menu on the flow's row in the list, or from the “…” menu at the top of the builder. The flow stops at once, and the draft stays as it is. To run it again, choose “Resume”. To delete it completely, choose “Delete” in the same menu. If other flows start this one, their names are shown before you delete it.
