API channel: connect your own app

Last updated: 26 September 2026 · 3 min read

The API channel is for sources Clomni doesn't know as a ready-made channel: your own website chat, your mobile app or another system. Your developer sends messages through the API, and the agents' replies go to your system by webhook.

Steps

  1. 1

    Choose the custom channel card

On Settings › Workspace settings › Inboxes, click “Add Inbox”. In the catalog, click “Connect” on the “Custom channel (API)” card.

  2. 2

    Enter a name and webhook

Enter the name in the “Channel Name” field. In the “Webhook URL” field, enter the address where your system will receive events (for example, an agent's reply). Then click “Create API Channel” and choose the agents.

  3. 3

    What your developer needs

In the channel's settings, the “Configuration” section has the “Inbox Identifier”: the developer uses it to identify customers. If you need to verify the user's identity, the “User Identity Validation” switch is in the same place. The developer also needs an API key, which you create in your profile (see “Create an API key (API access)”).
